Lacrosse agility drills are designed to help improve your speed on the field as well as increase your chances of creating an open shot for yourself. While many lacrosse agility drills focus on footwork and speed, others will work on improving your quickness and hand-eye coordination. Lacrosse agility drills range from scoring drills to line sprint drills.
Double Box Drill
This double box drill is designed to improve your agility as well as overall quickness on the lacrosse field. Grab four cones and create a small square on the field with them. Grab an additional four cones and make a square twice as big, surrounding the other square. The cones on the inside cone will be numbered one through four in a clockwise manner. The four cones making up the outside square will be numbered five through eight. Start in the center of the small square and wait for your coach's whistle. On his whistle, sprint to cone one and then sprint to cone three. From here, sprint to cone two and cone four. Once you have finished the small square, repeat this same order with the larger square. As you improve, alternate between squares to improve your agility.
Agility Sprint Drill
This agility sprint drill will help improve your on-field endurance as well as your overall quickness. Mark 10 lines on the lacrosse field with either cones or chalk. Start at the first line and wait for your coach's signal. On his signal, run to the first line and touch it with your hand. Pivot on your back foot and sprint back to the starting line. Touch the start line and sprint toward the second farthest line from the start. Repeat this drill until you have touched all the lines on the field. To pick up the pace, have your coach time you and the other players on the team. Have your coach award a prize to the fastest player in the drill.
Lacrosse Scoring Agility Drill
This drill is designed to improve your scoring accuracy as well as your agility. Stand in the center of the field with a lacrosse stick and ball in your stick. Have a defender and goalie line up to guard you. On your coach's whistle, run as quickly as you can toward the goal. As the defender runs up to meet you, perform a quick spin move to the left or right to evade this defender. As soon as you roll out of the spin, fire the ball at the goal to try and score. To start, have the defender meet you close to the goal to make your spin shot easier. As you improve, have him make you take shots farther away each time from the goal.
