The hybrid club has become very popular in golf because it is an outstanding choice for those who struggle with longer irons. The hybrid club makes it easier to get the ball up in the air and there are less mis-hits than there are with longer irons. However, there are a few nuances that those swinging a hybrid club have to know.
Step 1
Address the ball with a wider stance than you normally would. A hybrid club will get the ball up in the air because it has a lower center of gravity than a standard iron and taking a wider stance will help you take advantage of that.
Step 2
Hit the ball with a sweeping swing. You need a full hip turn and a full swing when hitting a hybrid. Some golfers look at their hybrid as a shorter iron and they come down on the ball the way they would with an 8- or 9-iron. This is the wrong way to hit with a hybrid.
Step 3
Lead with your hips when coming through the ball. Your hips need to dicatate the pace of your swing. Turn your hips to the right to start your backswing and then turn to the left after you have reached the apex of your swing.
Step 4
Come through the ball smoothly with your hands after your hips have cleared the hitting zone. There is not need to try to overpower the ball when you hit with a hybrid. The most important thing to concentrate on is square contact with the ball because the low center of gravity will drive the ball forward when the club head hits the bottom of the ball.
Step 5
Follow through until the club head has reached shoulder level. Keep your eyes focused on the spot where you made contact with the ball. Don't pick your head up until your swing has reached hip level on the follow through.
Tips and Warnings
- Take your hybrids to the driving range and practice with them regularly in order to have a consistent swing.
