When you're vacationing with kids, it's always a smart idea to pack a first aid kit to treat the bruises, bumps and scrapes that are part of every child's life. While there are ready made kits on the market, you'll find they are quite generic. They serve their purpose, and you should have a fully stocked standard first aid kit at all times. However, by making your own first aid kit for kids, you can add the special items that will smooth the pain and bring a smile back to a little face perhaps just a bit quicker than a standard first aid kit.
Step 1
Open the plastic box and remove the compartment dividers; set the dividers aside to use when you are customizing your first aid kit for kids.
Step 2
Remove the bandages, medical tape, gauze pads and any other items that are boxed. Lay the items out in the order in which they will be used for a common injury such as a small cut: antiseptic, antibiotic ointment and sheer bandages. Special treatment items such as gauze, tape and burn ointment can go into a larger "miscellaneous" section of you kit.
Step 3
Arrange the first aid items in the box, placing dividers as you go so you have a custom fit. To make the arrangement visually stimulating to a child, label each section with a number that coincides with the order in which the product will be used. For example, antiseptic would be the first thing used on a scrape, so that would be compartment number one. Compartment two would hold antibiotic ointment, and so on. Often a child will become fascinated with the kit and the steps involved in treating their injury and they will forget their pain.
Step 4
Place stickers on the outside of the box to make it obvious that it is a "kid-friendly" item. Put the rest of the stickers into the kit for awards to the injured, for bravely enduring their medical treatment.
