Vitamins are fat-soluble or water-soluble organic compounds that are essential for the normal growth and proper function of the body. Vitamins are obtained naturally from plant and animal food sources. Over the past 50 years, vitamins have been synthesized through chemistry and placed in capsule, tablet and liquid form for supplemental consumption.
Step 1
Take a whole-food-based complete multivitamin supplement in the morning with breakfast. It is optimal to take supplemental vitamins with actual food, as the compounds are more likely to be fully absorbed and utilized by the body. A whole-food-based vitamin will be derived from actual food sources, as opposed to a singular, synthesized compound, which is difficult for the body to recognize and assimilate.
Step 2
Eat a breakfast of berries, one apple, half of one grapefruit and a small handful of almonds. Make lunch a large salad full of mixed greens including dark spinach, kale and light romaine lettuce. Include seeds as well as tomatoes, peppers and other colorful vegetables for added vitamin content. Finally, eat a dinner full of steamed or sauteed vegetables, one lean meat portion such as fish or turkey, and a medium salad similar to lunch.
Step 3
Snack on carrots, celery sticks, baked sweet potato chips and hummus throughout the day. Foods rich in color, notably fruit and vegetables, offer a wide array of vitamins combined with other nutrients for optimal absorption. Enjoy these healthy snacks in between meals to stay satiated and healthy. These whole foods are a more ideal option over supplements, when considering vitamin content and proper assimilation by the body, suggests the Mayo Clinic.
Step 4
Juice a small bundle of spinach, two celery sticks, two small carrots, three sprigs of mint leaves and one small apple to taste. Add 1 tsp. of concentrated green powder mix, such as Super Green Food Powder or Greenergy, for an added boost of vitamins. These foods are rich in nutrients and are quickly absorbed by the body to be used immediately. Be sure to drink this fresh juice within 5 to 10 minutes after preparation, when the ingredients are fresh.
