Savannah is the largest port in Georgia and has one of the country's largest National Historic Landmark Districts. Awarded the historic distinction for its distinct architecture, historic buildings, layout of city squares and cobblestone streets, Savannah also has many activities to keep visitors and residents physically fit, including family recreation centers, water sports, deep sea fishing, parks and tours.

Family Entertainment Centers

Savannah has many family fun centers and amusement parks to keep the kids active and happy. Businesses such as Funzone Sports and Amusement Park and Island Miniature Golf and Games offer fun family attractions including miniature golf, go-karts, arcades, paintball, batting cages and a moonwalk bounce. Roller skating and laser tag are available at facilities such as Star Castle Family Entertainment Center and Corkan Family Fun Center, which also has rock climbing. Monkey Joe's has an indoor inflatable playground that offers an escape from Savannah's hot and rainy seasons. Fort Stewart MWR has a water spray park, golf course, archery ranges, paintball, hunting, fishing, bowling, as well as skeet, trap, rifle and pistol ranges.

Water Sports

Water sports are plentiful in Savannah with activities including sailing, boating, water skiing, kayaking, parasailing, swimming and fishing. Beaches and pools are available on the islands and around the city. Holbrook Recreation Area has basketball and volleyball courts, hiking and biking trails, a pond with two piers and a boat ramp for fishing, paddleboats, kayaks and canoes with boat rental available. Corkan and Bryan Village swimming pools are outdoor pools that offer lap swimming and open swimming from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, and Newman Swimming Pool is an indoor pool open year-round.

Fishing

Many Savannah charter boats and guides offer fishing adventures in the Savannah River and coastal waters as well as deep-sea fishing. You can fish near the shore for tarpon, trout, flounder, redfish and striper or visit deeper water to bottom fish or troll for sea bass, amberjack, kings, grouper, snapper, marlin, tuna, sharks and barracuda. Nature trip boat rides are available for dolphin watching.

Parks

Many Savannah parks also have pools and beaches with lakes for fishing and boating. Most parks also have recreational facilities that include basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, baseball, football and soccer fields, trails for nature walks, jogging, biking and in-line skating, golf courses and playgrounds. Daffin Park has handicap-accessible facilities, and Mayer Park has wheelchair fitness courts.

Tours

Savannah can be viewed in many ways. Guided tours are available by trolley, boat or on foot to explore the city's history, nature and culture. Tour landmarks, homes, gardens and museums or take a riverboat cruise to view Savannah from the harbor. Discover local legends with the ghost tours or solve a crime on a murder mystery cruise.
