How Do You Hit a Hybrid Golf Club?

Overview

The hybrid golf club is one of the top innovations for medium- and high-handicap players. It has basically taken the place of long irons, fairway woods and even some of the mid irons. The hybrid golf club gives the golfer the opportunity to hit the ball hight with distance on shots from the fairway and the short rough.

Step 1

Address your target squarely. Make sure your left shoulder is facing directly at your target and that your left foot is directly underneath your shoulder. Your feet should be shoulder length apart. Bend your knees slightly and make sure you are in an athletic position.

Step 2

Play the ball midway between your front foot and your back foot. When you are hitting a fairway wood or a long iron, the tendency is often to have the ball two ball lengths closer to your front foot. With a hybrid club, playing it equidistant between your two feet is ideal -- and certainly no more than one ball length closer to your front foot.

Step 3

Take an easy backswing with your hybrid club. These clubs are light and easy to swing. There is no reason to try to overpower the ball. The club will do the work for you with a smooth and steady swing. Swinging too hard will most likely lead to an errant shot with a hybrid club.

Step 4

Come through the ball with a sweeping motion. You do not want to hit down sharply. The angle should be slightly down and your should take a small divot. Most of the weight is at the bottom of the club head and you need to get underneath the center of the ball in order to get the desired results.

Step 5

Go to the driving range and practice with your hybrid clubs. They are relatively easy to get used to but you should take them to the range before you use them in a match or a tournament.

Tips and Warnings

  • An easy swing will get the job done with a hybrid. You do not have to overpower the ball.
