Subway operates a chain of individually-franchised sandwich restaurants across the globe. Although menu offerings can vary slightly from region to region, Subway does offer a list of standard menu items in its nutrition information sheet. Sixteen categories of nutrition information are provided for each menu item, including serving size, calories, calories from fat, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, carbohydrates, sodium, sugars, protein, dietary fiber, cholesterol and percentage of daily value of vitamin A, vitamin C, iron and calcium.
Available Bread Types
Subway offers nine types of standard sandwich bread, in addition to wraps, mini Italian bread, mini wheat bread and a light wheat English muffin. Sandwich breads available in both 6-inch and 12-inch versions are Italian (white), nine-grain wheat, parmesan oregano, honey oat, hearty Italian, Monterey cheddar, Italian herbs & cheese, roasted garlic and flatbread.
Calories
Calories for Subway sandwich breads -- 6-inch version -- range from 200 for the Italian (white) to 260 for the honey oat. Other calorie counts are 210 for the nine-grain wheat, 220 for the parmesan oregano and hearty Italian, 230 for the roasted garlic and flatbread, 240 for the Monterey cheddar and 250 for the Italian herbs & cheese. Calorie counts are doubled for 12-inch sandwiches. The light wheat English muffin carries 90 calories, the mini Italian comes in at 130, the mini wheat bread has 140 and the wrap has 310 calories.
Fat
Fat calories in 6-inch Subway sandwich bread range from 4 1/2 g on the high end for flatbread down to 2 g for the Italian (white), nine-grain wheat and hearty Italian. The parmesan oregano has 2 1/2 g of fat, the honey oat carries 3 g, and the Monterey cheddar and Italian herbs & cheese have 5 g of fat. The light wheat English muffin has 1/2 g of fat, while the mini-breads have 1 1/2 g each and the wrap has 8 g.
Vitamins and Minerals
Most Subway sandwiches offer 0 percent of the daily value of both vitamin A and vitamin C. The exceptions are the Monterey cheddar and Italian herbs & cheese bread, which each offer 2 percent of the DV of vitamin A, and the roasted garlic bread, which has 4 percent of the DV of vitamin A and 45 percent of the DV of vitamin C. All standard breads and the wrap offer 15 percent of the DV of iron, while the light wheat English muffin has 6 percent, the mini Italian has 10 percent and the mini wheat has 8 percent of the DV of iron. Calcium percentages range from 2 percent of the DV for the Italian (white), hearty Italian, flatbread and mini-breads to 15 percent for the light wheat English muffin.
Additional Nutrition Information
Subway sandwich breads are reasonably uniform in other nutrition categories, including having no trans fat and little or no cholesterol. One major variance is in the sodium content of the breads, which, at 6 inches, ranges from 390 mg for the Italian (white) and hearty Italian to 1,360 mg for the roasted garlic.
