When you want to flatten your abs with machines, there is something you need to take into consideration. You cannot spot reduce one area of your body. The key is to burn the fat on your belly while simultaneously toning your muscles. The right exercise machines may help you achieve your goals.
Treadmill
Treadmills indirectly help flatten the abs by burning calories throughout the entire body. They also help tone multiple muscles, such as the glutes, quadriceps and hamstrings. You can increase the emphasis on your abs by mixing in bouts of high-intensity running. This will cause you to forcefully contract your abs, and it will also burn a high amount of calories. After each sprint, jog twice as long to recover. For example, if you sprint for 30 seconds, jog lightly for 60 seconds.
Captain's Chair
The captain's chair is an ab toning machine that looks like a giant chair with a padded backrest and foot holds. Press your back against the backrest, rest your arms on the horizontal padded side supports and let your legs hang straight down toward the ground. Pull your knees up toward your chest, lower your legs back down and repeat for desired reps.
Indoor Cycling Bike
The indoor cycling bike, which is used in group classes, is a cardio machine that tones the glutes, thighs and calves at the same time. Being that this tool burns calories, it also contributes to flattening your stomach. You can increase the work on your abs by turning up the resistance on the bike and stand while pedaling. This causes you to forcefully contract your abs to generate power and to remain balanced.
Ab Crunch Machine
The ab crunch machine causes you to fold your body in half from a seated position while your feet are hooked under a padded bar and your hands grasp handles to the sides of your head. This targets your upper and lower abs simultaneously. You can increase the resistance and make your reps more challenging by sliding the pin adjustment into a lower groove on the weight stack. A similar machine exists where you lie on your back, place your feet on footrests and perform crunches to focus on the upper abs.
Elliptical Trainer
The elliptical trainer is a full-body exercise machine that tones the arms, legs and buttocks while burning calories. The trainer forces you to contract your abs while you push and pull the handles. To increase your resistance, make the appropriate adjustment on the console. For a variation, lift one foot in the air and use the elliptical. This will place even more emphasis on your abs.
Torso Twist
The torso twist machine targets the obliques on the sides of your stomach. It is operated from a kneeling position with your chest pressed against a padded support and hands grasping two handles. Twist your body from side to side in a steady motion. Once you finish a set of reps, disengage the kneeling support and move it around to the other direction. Kneel back on and target the other side of your body. This machine has a pin and weight stack system to adjust resistance.
