Boston is no stranger to fitness centers. Parents can benefit from babysitting services and children of all ages can participate in physical activities designed in accordance with age. Women can work out in centers designed exclusively for them and anyone can join in on a game of basketball to burn off some calories.

Types

Boston provides unisex and specialized fitness centers based on the requirement of gender or age. Both for-profit and nonprofit fitness centers offer a variety of services to accommodate everyone. Women and children fitness centers in Boston provide a means for women with children to focus on their goals and tasks while knowing that the fitness center is providing full childcare during the workout.

Personal Trainer

Personal trainers are a feature that many fitness centers in Boston provide. Training can be group-based for multiple individuals looking to achieve the same level of fitness, or individually customized for the benefit of one. In addition to assisting with physical conditioning, personal trainers can assist you with the psychological and emotional experience of working toward the goal. Trainers' experience and education can vary from club to club, however, some clubs prohibit trainers from working at the center until they have taken and passed approved courses in anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology and post-rehab protocols.

Classes

Fitness centers constantly look for additional services to offer potential members, and specialized classes can be the answer to which many have turned. Classes can range from classical martial arts or fusion kickboxing to advanced cardiovascular endurance programs. Some fitness centers can offer a large variety of classes, including advanced dance steps with intensity increasing every week. In combination with body strengthening and cardiovascular workouts, some classes mix weight training with Pilates and yoga-based movements, which creates a balance of mind and body.

Sports Exercise

Many fitness centers recognize the value of making exercise a more enjoyable experience. Common sports options are individual lessons for baseball including hitting, pitching and fielding. Some centers provide basketball courts as well as racquetball courts. Both boxing and kickboxing programs are available at select fitness centers. Many facilities offer sport-based exercises such as tennis, and some provide United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) certified staff to assist each player in reaching desired tennis goals.

Children and Fitness

Adults are not the only ones who benefit from entertaining forms of exercise. Some centers offer specialized programs for children where kids of all ages can discover how fast the hours can go by while participating in activities with other children. Some fitness centers offer swimming pools and swimming classes that accommodate children as young as 18 months of age, while others provide children with dance classes while parents complete planned workouts. Certain fitness centers even offer birthday parties that provide hours of activity where children have no idea that so much fun could be healthy.
