Weight loss is not always necessary for teen girls even though you may think it is for you. It is important to talk to your doctor before you engage in any weight loss routine to determine if it is necessary. Also, a regular exercise routine should be added to any weight loss diet because it will cause you to burn more calories and promote overall health. All proper weight loss diets should contain a variety of healthy nutrient rich foods.

Fiber Rich

Eating foods that are rich in fiber and low in calories will help you promote and maintain a healthy weight. Fiber is an important component in any weight loss diet plan; it aids in proper digestion and helps you feel fuller faster and for a longer period of time.

Foods that you should eat to get a significant amount of fiber include fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains. More specifically berries and baby carrots are high in fiber and are easy to snack on throughout your day. Oatmeal or whole grain cereals should be eaten at the beginning of your day to provide you with an energizing fiber rich breakfast. To ensure that you are promoting weight loss by eating a diet rich in fiber, you should substitute whole grain products for refined grain foods such as white breads and pastas.

Protein Source

To lose weight, as a teenage girl, limit the amount of animal based proteins in your diet and replace then with plant based proteins. Plant based proteins are generally lower in calories and unhealthy fats and rich in nutrients. Animal proteins overall contain higher amounts of fat, calories, cholesterol and unhealthy fats such as saturated fats. According to the Harvard School of Public Health, six ounces of salmon provides you with 18g of fat and 34g of protein, while a cup of cooked lentils is just one gram of fat, but 18g of protein.

Possible plant based proteins to use in your diet include beans, lentils, tofu, soy products, peanut butter, seeds and nuts. It is important to eat a variety of these to ensure you get all your necessary nutrients, but do not forget about including fruits, vegetables and whole grains in your diet.

Stop Drinking Calories

As a teen girl you probably drink a significant number of calories throughout the day in the form of soda, fruit juice, coffee drinks and sports drinks. The calories in these beverages offer limited nutritional value and can stunt your weight loss. The MayoClinic.com reports that if these calories rich drinks are cut out of your diet it can spare you hundreds of calories every day. There is at least 120 calories in each can of regular soda.

Replace your calorie rich beverages with water or unsweetened tea. Not only will these over a replacement for your thirst, but proper hydration helps keep hunger at bay, which aids in weight loss.
