According to the International Bowling Museum, bowling is enjoyed in over 90 countries of the world and played by over 95 million people. With a rich history developed over centuries, bowling has evolved into many variations with the same central theme: throw a ball and knock over as many pins as possible.
If you own your own bowling ball and bowl on a regular basis, you'll notice the different feel and action of your ball as the surface develops a film of oil and dirt. This build up is due not only to body oils but to the polish and dirt on the lanes, which is transferred to your bowling ball each time it is used. It's important to clean your ball at least once a month to keep it in optimum shape.
Step 1
Fill the bucket to the half way point with warm water.
Step 2
Add one teaspoon dish soap or laundry detergent, stirring gently to disperse the soap.
Step 3
Place your bowling ball into the bucket of soapy water, taking care not to drop it. Allow to soak for 20 minutes.
Step 4
Rinse the soap residue off the ball by placing the ball in a sink and spraying it until the water runs clear.
Step 5
Dry your bowling ball, using a soft lint-free cloth. Allow to air dry for an additional hour before storing the ball in its case.
Tips and Warnings
- Clean your bowling ball with an alcohol wipe after each use. You can also run your bowling ball through a short cycle in a dishwasher, taking care not to use the heat drying cycle.
