Common with age as the skin underneath the eyes becomes thinner, swelling under the eyes is more of an irritant than a serious problem. Many experience puffy eyes as a result of excessive salt intake, lack of sleep or allergies, but whatever the reason it can create an aesthetic problem that demands prompt attention. Before starting the day, this puffiness can be eliminated leaving the tired eye look behind so you can face the world.
Step 1
Slice cucumbers or potatoes and place a slice over each eye as you lie down. Make sure that the potato or cucumber makes direct contact with the swelling and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes to help reduce it.
Step 2
Tap the swollen area under each eye with your fingertip. Tap each puffy area repeatedly for at least 3 to 5 minutes. This helps to nudge trapped fluids away from the eyes.
Step 3
Lie down and place an ice pack over your eyes. If you don't have ice cubes use a pack of frozen vegetables. Leave the cold pack over your eyes for at least 15 minutes to help eliminate the swelling.
Step 4
Place a used and cooled tea bag over each eye while lying down. Black, green and white tea bags are the most effective. Make sure you expel the excess moisture out of the tea bags to avoid getting tea into your eyes. Leave the tea bags in place for 15 minutes to allow the tea's natural tannins to help pull the skin taut.
Step 5
Take an over-the-counter diuretic to help eliminate ease fluid retention. Read and follow the manufacturers' instructions carefully for dosage.
