Health and Fitness Clubs in New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development website boasts, "you're going to love it here." This New England state gives you the chance to experience all four seasons. Whether a resident or a visitor, you can kayak in the Saco River, cross-country ski near Mount Washington or arrange for a massage at a spa. If you are up for a traditional exercise regimen, you have a variety of choices to consider.

Yoga

If you are interested in a fitness club that focuses on yoga, you can register for a class at a variety of specialty fitness clubs. Bikram Yoga in Nashua, New Hampshire offers yoga classes seven day a week. In class, you'll perform 26 postures in the same order every session. Women and men of all fitness levels can attend class. The Yoga Life Institute of New Hampshire offers various workshops and classes throughout the week. Some workshops focus on meditation, the chakra system and overcoming anxiety. Classes include Yoga I, Yoga II, Classical Yoga and Kundalini Yoga.

Pilates

Another body exercise regimen is Pilates. This exercise method helps improve balance, muscle tone and posture. CoreFocused in Hollis serves numerous communities on the border of Massachusetts and in southern New Hampshire, including Nashua, Pelham Temple and Wilton. You can enroll in a private or semi-private class from $35 to $48 an hour, as of September 2010. Also, Rye Studio 7 Fitness and Wellness offers Stott Pilates, Pilates Stick and Power Pilates classes. Rates range from $25 to $55 an hour.

Martial Arts

New Hampshire affords you the opportunity to enroll in a variety of martial arts classes, including mixed martial arts, Brazilian jujitsu and tae kwon do. Seacoast MMA offers classes in hapkido, muay Thai, tai chi and jujitsu seven days a week. Also, you can register for mixed martial arts clinics held throughout the year. The New Hampshire Martial Arts Academy provides children and adults with tae kwon do classes in Exeter. Also, children five years old and under can attend the preschool martial arts class to learn self-control, coordination, balance and self-defense.

Just for Women

If you feel more comfortable exercising among other women, opt for a women's-only fitness facility. The only Lady of America fitness club in New Hampshire is in Keene. You can register for a variety of classes, such as cardio, strength and yoga. Nontraditional classes available include hula hoop, yoga, dance and a class that uses medicine balls. Another ladies-only fitness club in New Hampshire is Elements Diet and Fitness in Exeter. The fitness facility offers a 30-minute overall body strength class, a Brazilian booty class that works the lower area and a 30-minute class that focuses on your arms.

Neighborhood Fitness Centers

Most New Hampshire town offer at least one neighborhood fitness facility. Typically, you can find one near shopping areas, food places and near the expressway. Atlantic Health & Fitness Club in Seabrook is open seven days a week. The 38,000-square-foot facility offers a spa, juice bar, tanning beds and childcare services. Some classes include Silversneaker muscular strength, American kenpo karate and cycling. A neighborhood fitness club that is open 24 hours is KI Fitness in Exeter. Some programs offered include ki kickboxing and TRX suspension training. You also have access to free-weight and cardiovascular equipment.
