What Do You Need in a Tackle Box?

Fishing is an enjoyable activity that can be the focus of a day off from work, a week's vacation or a profession if you are an experienced angler who can win fishing contests. No matter how intense or casual the fisherman is, he should take a tackle box with him for all the equipment needed for his fishing experience.

Knife

The knife may be the single-most important thing a fisherman can put in his tackle box. The knife can cut line, it can cut the fish off the line and it can be used to cut bait. After you have finished your day of fishing and you have brought your catch in, you filet your fish and get it ready for the grill.

Lures

Worm fishing can be effective, but lures are more effective. Jigs look like small fish or insects and are among the most popular lures to be found. Spinners have blades that move around and have tails and animal hair. They are best for catching trout and bass. Crankbait imitates minnows and are very realistic. It is effective for catching muskies, pike and bass.

Fresh bait

You will also want to have your share of fresh bait in your tackle box. Worms, minnows and night crawlers make outstanding bait.

Needle-nose pliers

Once you catch a fish, you may find that it has embedded itself on your hook. Instead of merely taking the hook out of its mouth with your hands, you may find you need to use a needle-nose pliers in order to get the hook free. The needle-nose pliers will help you apply all the pressure you need to get a stubborn hook free.

Food

There's nothing like a great day of fishing. If you are going out on a boat for a full day, you will need to bring your lunch and cold drinks with you. The boat may or may not have a refrigerator on it. If it does not, you need to store your lunch in your tackle box. You will find that the tackle box has an area that will keep food and drink items cold.
