Increasing the rate of metabolism and staying alert can be done simultaneously. The mechanisms that human physiology utilizes to achieve both goals are linked in an extremely strong way. However, a lot of products that are currently available to speed up the metabolic rate and pep up a person's mind are wholly unnatural and produce intolerable side effects, such as jitteriness and disturbed sleep patterns. It is very encouraging therefore that the supplement taurine affects the body in a far more positive way.

Step 1

Buy a pack of taurine pills. This non-essential amino acid is available quite cheaply, usually at the cost of under $10 for a full month's supply. Most specialist health stores and Internet retailers---particularly those focused primarily on sports-based nutrition---will hold stock. Taurine is a pivotal component in boosting the metabolic process, which also directly stimulates energy levels. According to Florida State University, "Taurine is incorporated into one of the most abundant bile acids, chenodeoxychloic acid where it serves to emulsify dietary lipids in the intestine, promoting digestion."

Step 2

Select only an isolated product. Pure taurine pills are harder to come by than amino acid complexes, which contain several different components. Don't be tempted to purchase one of these instead though, as the actual taurine content will be lowered quite a lot and the absorption rate will decrease due to multiple nutrients being in the bloodstream at once.

Step 3

Take your supplement optimally. Use the same dose every single day, in order to keep maximum consistency within your digestive system. Also, be fully aware that as taurine is acidic in nature, it is wise to take it at the same time as a main meal. Doing so will significantly reduce the probability of stomach upsets in the vast majority of people.

Step 4

Consume energy drinks. Along with the dominant ingredients of caffeine and several B vitamins, many of these items contain a plentiful amount of taurine as well. They can be bought individually or in bulk packs and don't necessarily need to be chilled in the fridge, unless you prefer them this way.

Step 5

Drink plenty of pure water. Although taurine is generally well tolerated by most people it can unfortunately cause dehydration. In addition, although increasing metabolism is a very important part of weight loss, it alone is definitely not enough. The U.S Geological Survey website states, "Lean muscle tissue contains about 75 percent water by weight." Proper hydration also helps to create mental alertness, as water is a crucial factor in successfully detoxifying both the mind specifically and the body as a whole.
