In order to put contacts on eyes easily, you must get over any apprehension you might have about touching your eyeball. Touching the eye does not hurt as long as you do it gently and with clean hands. Putting contacts on eyes only requires you to touch your eyeball for a second. It becomes easy after doing it just a few times.
Step 1
Lather your hands up with soap and water. Your fingers must be very clean before touching a contact lens. If you have oil, dirt, or bacteria on your hand, you could give yourself an eye infection. Be sure to rinse your hands thoroughly with clean water.
Step 2
Clear the area in front of you. It is common to drop a contact lens while trying to put it on your eye. If you drop it in a messy area it will be hard to find. The best place to put contacts on eyes is in a bathroom in front of a clear counter. Close the sink drain if you are near it.
Step 3
Hold the contact lens on a fingertip and rinse with multi-purpose solution. Shoot a steady stream at the contact lens for 5 seconds, then turn it over and spray it 5 seconds on the other side.
Step 4
Position the contact lens so that the edges curve straight up. If the edges curve slightly outward, the lens is inside out. Once you have the contact lens in the correct position, place 2 to 3 drops of multi-purpose solution inside to moisturize it.
Step 5
Widen your eyes as much as you can and stare straight into a mirror at your eyeball. You need to see your eye clearly, so move within one foot of the mirror.
Step 6
Open your eye even wider by pulling down the lower eyelid. Do this by placing a finger on your cheek bone beneath the eye and pressing downward. This position might be uncomfortable, but you will only be holding it for a second.
Step 7
Press the finger with the contact lens directly on your eye. You will see it coming at you. Do not panic and blink. You will not hurt yourself or experience pain. When you feel wetness on your eye, pull your finger away. Blink a few times and see if you can see in focus. If you can, the contact lens is on your eye. If you can't, wet the contact lens and try again.
