What was once home to fishermen and hunters at the dawn of our nation's history is now a prime spot for campers looking to enjoy scenic beach views. Both RV and traditional campers are welcome at Wrightsville Beach and there are several accommodations and activities in place to attract those looking to enjoy the historic Wrightsville Beach area.

Campgournds

The three major campgrounds near Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina are Wilmington KOA, Carolina Beach Family Campground and Winner's RV Park. Wilmington KOA includes camp and RV sites and is located close to Wrightsville Beach and downtown Wilmington. Carolina Beach Family Campground, located south of Wilmington, also accommodates campers and RVs and is open year-round. Winner's RV Park specializes in RV camping and is the only RV Park in Carolina Beach.

Accomodations

According to KOA, its campground in Wilmington includes 50 amp service for RVs, free cable TV and wireless Internet and a pavilion available for special events. Carolina Beach Family Campground allows pets as long as they are on a leash and includes large wooded sites throughout the campground. Winner's RV Park includes 22 spaces with both 30 and 50 Amp service for motorized campers. Pets are also welcome at Winner's and the park even includes a boat storage lot for campers that want to cruise around Carolina Beach and its nearby waterways.

Activities

Most campers near Wrightsville Beach will want to spend most if not all of their time soaking in the sun on the beach, but there are several activities both in and near the campgrounds of Wrightsville Beach. According to KOA, there are 45 public golf courses near Wrightsville Beach, as well as trolley tours and shopping in nearby Wilmington. Lovers of the outdoors can enjoy biking, kayaking and fishing in nearby Cape Fear River. Carolina Beach Family Campground and Wilmington KOA feature swimming pools for those that don't want to leave the site, but adventurous campers can visit the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher as well as the USS North Carolina Battleship Memorial in Wilmington.

Weather

According to Surf Camp, the weather of Wrightsville Beach is much more comfortable than that of the inland cities of North Carolina. Because of winds from the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf Stream, Wrightsville Beach never remains overly hot or cold. Surf Camp reports that there is an average of 212 days of sunshine and average yearly temperatures of 63.7 degrees F, making Wrightsville perfect for beach lovers and golfers. However, with an average rainfall of 50.85 inches, packing an umbrella and a rain jacket is a good idea.

Rates

Rates at Wrightsville Beach campgrounds change depending on time of year and the selected camping spot. As of 2010, rates for Winner's RV Park are $40 nightly, while weekly and monthly rates are $240 and $650, respectively. These rates drop slightly during the Park's winter season of October to April. Wilmington KOA rates differ depending on RV camping or regular camping. A family of four utilizing an RV space and staying a week at KOA can expect to pay around $63 a night, as of 2010. On the other hand, the same family can pay only $25 a night for a traditional campground, while a campground with electric and water hook-ups will run $48 per night.
