Cellulite is dimpled skin caused by fat cells breaking through connective tissue, giving the skin a lumpy, orange-peel texture. Although drinking caffeine can make the appearance of cellulite worse by impairing circulation, the topical application of caffeine may temporarily create a smoother texture by plumping up the skin and reducing swelling. An estimated 90 percent of women will struggle with cellulite at some point in their lives and although being slim helps prevent cellulite, it's no guarantee that you won't be affected.

Step 1

Choose a cellulite cream that contains ingredients that stimulate blood blow such as caffeine, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents. Read ingredients carefully and remember that coffee, coffeeberry and black or green tea all contain caffeine.

Step 2

Massage cellulite cream into the affected areas, typically hips, thighs and buttocks. The results are temporary, so it's important to use the cream daily for continued improvement.

Step 3

Exercise and change your diet for a more permanent result. Cellulite creams containing caffeine do not cure cellulite, only temporarily mask its appearance.

Tips and Warnings

  • Apply the cream at night for better absorption. Drink as much water as you can because water will hydrate skin and flush out toxins. Massaging with or without cream encourages lymphatic drainage and will help boost circulation.
  • Not all cellulite creams are regulated by advisory boards, so claims made on packaging may not be verified. Many conflicting claims have been made about the effectiveness of cellulite creams. Scientific support is inconsistent, limited and incomplete.

Things You'll Need

  • Topical cream containing caffeine
