Countless short-term and fad diets exist to help you lose weight fast. These diets promise to help you lose a significant amount of weight within a matter of weeks or days, and they do often work. But most of these diets are not healthy to maintain for a long period of time, and you often regain weight once you go off the diet. The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to exercise and maintain a healthy, life-long diet.
Three-Day Diet
The Three-Day diet is the definition of quick. This diet is only intended to be used for three days at a time, but claims to allow you to lose 10 lbs. in this period. After the three-day period, you are supposed to return to a normal eating routine for four to five days before returning to the Three-Day diet if you desire. Since this diet is so low in calories, it is unhealthy to remain on it for more than three days.
For breakfast, you can consume black coffee or tea with optional artificial sweetener. Lunch varies throughout the three days, but involves one protein, either tuna, cottage cheese or eggs. Dieters can also have one carb, either a slice of toast or saltine crackers, and black coffee or tea. Dinner also varies, with options of tuna, lean meat or beef hot dogs, vegetables, fruit, vanilla ice cream and black coffee or tea.
Cabbage Soup Diet
The Cabbage Soup Diet claims to be able to assist you in losing up to 10 lbs. in a week, though it emphasizes that it is not a suitable diet for long-term weight loss. The goal of this diet is to get you started on losing weight before switching to a healthier diet.
The diet varies each day throughout the week. It is based on eating beef, most fruits and vegetables and, of course, cabbage soup. It can cause some people to feel light-headed and weak and suffer from decreased concentration.
Atkins Diet
According to the official website, you can lose up to 15 lbs. in the first two weeks of the Atkins Diet. This diet is based on restricting carbohydrates while allowing a large consumption of protein and fat. The Atkins diet allows between 20 and 100 g of carbohydrates per day, depending on the phase of the diet.
At the start of the diet, you are allowed no more than 20 g of carbohydrates per day, 12 to 15 of which must be from vegetables. On the other hand, you can eat virtually any animal products, eggs, cheeses and most fats, including butter and mayonnaise. This Atkins Diet can be used long-term, but the health effects are unknown.
