According to MayoClinic.com, female pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia, occurs when women experience hair loss or thinning at the front, sides or crown of the scalp. It affects roughly one-third of all women. Hair thinning is a normal part of aging. It can be caused by heredity, stress, or certain illness. Poor nutrition or hormonal changes, such as giving birth, can also play a part. Herbal remedies may help stimulate hair follicles so new growth can occur. For centuries, women have been using herbs in time-honored traditions to enhance beauty of their hair.
Step 1
Pour the jojoba and grapeseed oils into the glass container. Mix well with a spoon.
Step 2
Add 25 drops of rosemary essential oil into the glass container. Continue to add 10 to 15 drops of thyme and lavender oils into the mixture.
Step 3
Close the glass container and roll on a kitchen counter for several minutes until it is blended. Do not shake the container as the essential oils will not mix as well.
Step 4
Massage the oil mixture liberally into the roots of your hair. Comb it down to the tips. Allow it to sit on your head for 30 minutes. Place a shower cap on top of your head.
Step 5
Start a hot shower and stand in it for 5 minutes with the cap on your head. Remove the cap and rinse your hair in the shower. Cleanse with your normal shampoo and conditioner.
Tips and Warnings
- The Herb Companion website says these essential oils help stimulate new hair growth, especially rosemary. Drinking a cup of rosemary and lavender tea may also indirectly help your hair. Lavender can help provide balance for your hair. Natural News also suggests taking ginseng as a tincture or looking for it as an ingredient in shampoo. Also try fresh aloe vera gel to soothe the scalp. This may help restore the pH balance and subsequently improve hair growth.
- Do not place the essential oils directly onto your skin. They may cause burning or irritation. Also use them with carrier oils. If you are concerned about your hair loss, consult your physician. Hair loss may be indicative of a serious illness. Herbal remedies are not meant to replace medical treatments.
