Eyebrows hold a center place on the face and can either dominate a finished look or fade among the other cosmetics. Eyebrows can be difficult to manage, as the hairs usually are stiff and wiry. Shaping brows can be a tricky proposition, report cosmetologists at Free Beauty Tips. Since they are so close to the eyes, it can be dangerous to use wax or chemicals on your own eyebrows. It is safer and you can get a more accurate line by learning how to pluck the eyebrows.

Step 1

Plan your eyebrow shape. Whether you are planning on styling your brows into a new shape or just want to maintain a natural look free of strays, you should have an idea of the final look so that you'll know when to stop. Ideally, plucking should be used to clean up the skin directly under the main shape of the brow and pull out long hairs that refuse to be tamed.

Step 2

Place a hot towel over the eyebrow area that you plan to pluck to open up the pores and decrease the pain associated with pulling hairs out.

Step 3

Use a pair of tweezers that have a pointed tip for easier grabbing. Make sure that the tweezers have a tight clean grip that will not slide off individual hairs.

Step 4

Lift your arm so that it parallels your eyebrows so that you can pull in the right direction and grab the stray hairs. Aim the tweezers at the hair and grab each hair individually. Pull out in the direction that the hair grows. Pluck with a quick, sure motion so that you make sure to grab the follicle. Plucking a short hair that has been cut in half because of a hesitation when pulling is much more difficult to grasp with the tweezers.

Step 5

Pluck a few hairs from each side and then stop and preview the results. Eyebrow hair takes months to grow back. It is easier to pull out a few more hairs after stopping to check than it is to fill in bald spots with color and wait for the hair to grow back.

Tips and Warnings

  • Pull the skin under your eyebrow taut as your pluck to reduce the pain.
  • While many people prefer to moisturize the brows before plucking to ease the pain, beware that your tweezers may slip off as you grab a hair. The entire process will only take longer if you have slippery hairs.

Things You'll Need
