There is an old adage that goes, "What feels good can't be all bad." This saying has some truth when it comes to certain sexual practices. Prostate massage, either digitally with the fingers or by use of anal vibrator or other device, is one of them. It is an activity that not only gives men great pleasure but may help alleviate prostatitis, reduce the discomfort associated with some cases of prostate enlargement. It can even play a cancer preventative role because it can help to expel cancer-causing compounds from the gland itself, not unlike masturbation with orgasm. The trick, if there is one, is to do it gently.

The Prostate Gland

The prostate gland's principle role is to produce seminal fluid that helps sustain sperm and promote their mobility following ejaculation. This walnut size gland can also be the source of health problems such as infection, enlargement and cancer. There is evidence that frequent ejaculation helps to remove compounds from the prostate that contribute to its enlargement and to the promotion of cancer. Anything that maximizes prostate "flushing" should carry away these away.

Digital or manual prostate massage

Digital or finger prostate massage is generally best done as follows: Prior to engaging in prostate massage, urinate and have a bowel movement, if needed. If you have a partner, you should have an enema prior to your session, as this will help avoid any embarrassing "accidents" involving soiled linens or fingers. It also is wise if the finger nail of the finger that is to be used to massage is trimmed and has no jagged edges. A tight-fitting sterile latex glove will help to minimize transfer of bacteria from hand to anal canal, or vice versa.

Now we get down to the "mechanics". You or your partner should gently insert a well lubricated finger or fingers into the anus, then slowly push it or them inwards to about the second knuckle joint, then curl it/them upwards towards the naval and begin a gentle "come here" motion. You (or your partner) should feel a small orb of tissue through the anal canal wall (Prostate). All that's needed now is a gentle massage along its sides though avoid pressing on the central portion as this is very sensitive.

As most men do not achieve orgasm by massage alone, accompanying sexual activity that culminates in a climax is needed. Those who experience this typically find it extremely pleasurable.

Prostate Massagers

There are number of prostate massagers and stimulators whose use can make "flushing" a powerfully pleasant experience: The Aneros is a manual device. There also is a high tech device that delivers a safe electric charge-induced massage to the prostate called the Electro-Flex™ Prostate Stimulator. Another is the inexpensive but effective battery powered "Dr. Erector."

Concluding Remarks

Gentle prostate massage using fingers or devices by healthy men can confer health benefits and bring pleasure in the process.
