Virgin coconut oil is rich in antioxidants and nutrients and has been used for centuries for its nutritional properties. The high levels of essential fatty acids and saturated fat found in virgin coconut provides the hair and skin with moisture and softness. Virgin coconut oil can be used as a daily moisturizer, cleanser and hair conditioner. There are stringent guidelines to ensure its efficacy and purity, and that it is free of additives, chemicals and fillers.

How Is Virgin Coconut Oil Made?

Virgin coconut oil is cold-pressed to keep temperatures below 120 degrees F; this ensures the oil maintains its vitamins and minerals during the extraction process. The virgin coconut oil is extracted from the kernel seed of the coconut or the matured meat of the coconut when harvested from the coconut palm tree. Because of the high fat content in coconut oil, it does not oxidize or become rancid. Virgin coconut oil is customarily sold in glass bottles to preserve its integrity.

Pre-Wash Hair Conditioner

Virgin coconut oil can be used on the hair as an oil conditioner before shampooing or added to your favorite conditioner for increased moisturization. Apply virgin coconut oil throughout your hair and allow it to sit for an hour, or for best results, leave it in overnight. Shampoo your hair the next morning and apply a small amount of virgin coconut oil into your hair to strengthen and replenish its natural oils.

Reduce Hair Breakage

Virgin coconut oil has iron, copper, vitamin e and vitamin K, which are beneficial for strengthening the hair cuticle to reduce damage and breakage. Virgin coconut oil is also rich in amino acids and protein necessary nutrients for thickening the hair shaft for fuller hair; it can be massaged into the scalp to stimulate blood flow and encourage hair growth.

Body Moisturizer

Virgin coconut oil absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving an oily residue and can be applied all over the body. The essential fatty acids have antibacterial, antifungal and moisturizing properties that penetrate to prevent dry skin.

Facial Cleanser

Virgin coconut oil contains antifungal and antibacterial properties that are vital components to achieve and maintain healthier skin. Virgin coconut oil can be used on acne-prone skin to reduce blemishes and soothe irritated skin. Apply it on your face and leave it on for several minutes; gently wipe away the excess oil with a warm facial cloth. Virgin coconut oil can also be used to remove makeup.
