Even if you're not trying to pack on muscle mass, your diet must include adequate levels of protein. The weight loss information website Every Diet explains that protein contains amino acids, which are used to not only build muscle, but to form antibodies, hormones, enzymes, skin hair and bones. Because lack of protein can cause decreased growth and immunity, you may want to use a protein supplement. Though many protein supplements are made from dairy protein--which may be inappropriate if you are lactose intolerant--there are some protein supplements made from meat. Before taking any supplements, consult a doctor.

Olympian Labs Beef Protein

Olympian Labs Beef Protein is a lean source of protein, as each serving contains 2g of fat and 23g of carbohydrates, for a total of 110 calories. Olympian Labs Beef Protein is a powder that has a chocolate flavor, and offers a cholesterol-free source of beef protein, which tends to be high in cholesterol. According to Olympian Labs, this protein has a high biological value, which means it is easily absorbed by your body. Olympian Labs Beef Protein also contains high levels of amino acids that help form skin, cartilage, muscles and tendons.

MuscleMeds Carnivor Beef Protein Isolate

MuscleMeds Carnivor Beef Protein Isolate is another powdered beef protein supplement, and is endorsed by professional bodybuilder Kai Green. According to MuscleMeds, this product is more highly concentrated than protein supplements that use whey, milk, egg or soy protein. In addition, the company explains that this product contains high levels of creatine, which may support muscle-building and athletic performance. Each serving of MuscleMeds Carnivor Beef Protein Isolate contains 116 calories, with 6g of carbohydrates and 23g of protein. This product is fat- and cholesterol-free, and comes in Blue Raspberry and Fruit Punch flavors.

Protein Factory Super Plasma Protein

Protein Factory Super Plasma Protein differs from the two previous products in that it has a much smaller serving size--each serving contains just 20 calories, with 4g of protein, and no fat or carbohydrates. According to Protein Factory, this product has a slow rate of digestion, which helps provide amino acids to your body over an extended period of time compared to sources such as whey. In addition, Protein Factory Super Plasma Protein contains insulin-like growth factor 1, or IGF-1, which is a hormone involved in growth and development.
