Whether you are hosting a football-themed birthday, organizing a gathering for your kid's teammates or wish to occupy the children at your Super Bowl party, plan football-themed games for entertainment. Engage kids in football games that celebrate the spirit of the game, encourage teamwork and provide enjoyment through friendly competition.

Football Charades

Divide players into two teams. Have players from each team take turns drawing cards from a stack. The cards should have football-related words on them, such as cheerleader, helmet, coach, touchdown, field goal or football. The age group of the kids should determine the difficulty level of the football terms. Set a timer and give each team two minutes to guess what their teammate is acting out with motions. A correct guess made before the time runs out scores a point. The team with the most points at the end of play wins.

Football Toss

Take the kids outside and have them line up to take a turn at throwing a football. Assign an adult to place a flag at the marker where each football lands. The player with the flag at the greatest distance is the winner.

Try another variation of this game by hanging a hula hoop from a tree. Give each player five chances to toss the football through the hoop. Each time a player is successful, he scores a point. The player with the most points wins.

Play the football toss game indoors with a foam football. Place a laundry basket on one side of the room and allow players five attempts to toss the ball into the basket. Score one point for each time the ball lands in the basket. The winner is the player with the most points once each player's turn is complete.

Touchdown Relay

Divide the players into two teams. Line the two teams up side by side on one side of the room or yard. Select an area on the other side of the game play area and call it the "end zone." Lay a football, a jersey and a helmet at the foot of each team. When the whistle blows, the first player in each line must put on the jersey and helmet, pick up the football, race to the end zone, do a touchdown celebration dance and return to his team. He must then remove the football gear and hand it off to the next player in line. The second player repeats the actions of the first player. The relay race continues until each player in line has had a turn. The first team to have all of its players complete the task is the winner.

Penalty Word

Choose a penalty word such as "football" or "touchdown." Give each player a football whistle. If a player catches another player using the penalty word, she must blow her whistle and point to the offending player. The player who has been caught must surrender his whistle to his captor. The player who collects the most whistles is the winner.
