Treadmills are exercise machines used for walking and running in one place, usually indoors. It is a convenient piece of equipment that lets you exercise even when the fitness club is closed or the weather is bad. However, treadmills can cost thousands of dollars. Affordable treadmills such as refurbished or used ones are the best choice for people who want to save money.
Step 1
Visit or call sporting goods stores and ask if they have any refurbished treadmills in stock. Refurbished treadmills are basically re-manufactured or rebuilt from the ground up and cost half the price.
Step 2
Visit your local thrift stores and second-hand shops. These stores might have some used or new treadmills that have been donated. If they don't carry any, speak with the manager and leave your name and number and ask if she can call you if they do receive any treadmills.
Step 3
Contact your local gym or fitness center and find out if they have any treadmills they can dispose of or sell used. Fitness gyms are known to purchase new equipment to keep up to the latest trends and compete with other fitness centers. Sometimes they will have broken treadmills. If this is the case, they will usually just give it away. Make sure to contact the manufacturer of the broken treadmill and ask how much it will cost to repair the treadmill prior to purchasing one that is broken.
Step 4
Contact the manufacturer of the treadmill you'd like to buy. Ask to speak with the operations manager and find out if they have any used or refurbished treadmills you can purchase. Many retailers will send treadmills back to the manufacturer for refurbishing or if they no longer want to carry that product.
Step 5
Look at classified ads either online or in the paper for going out of business sales, garage sales or yard sales. Make sure to check the equipment for any defects before buying the treadmill.
