Remedies for Eye Bags

People have bags under their eyes for a variety of reasons. These reasons can include anything from a buildup of toxins to a lack of sleep, water retention, allergies or family genes. Puffy eyes are no fun and can be embarrassing. Expensive creams and spas can help reduce eye bags, or there are simple ingredients within your own home or the corner grocery that can remedy eye bags.

Foods

Soak a few cotton balls in milk and place them under your eyes for a few moments. The lactic acid helps reduce the puffiness. Two thin lemon or potato slices placed under each eye for 20 minutes can soothe and relieve puffy eyes. Soaking a few cucumber slices in lemon juice, then placing them under your eyes for 10 minutes can reduce eye puffiness. Putting cold tea bags under the eyes can help, since the caffeine in the tea diminishes puffiness.

Water

Water is one of the best ways to reduce bags under the eyes. A cool, ice-water compress put under the eyes for 20 minutes can soothe the eyes and reduce puffiness. Gently splashing the face with water can stimulate blood circulation in your face, which can reduce puffy eyes.
Most importantly, drink lots of water. Because puffy eyes could mean a buildup of toxins, flushing your system of toxins can help banish puffy eyes.

Healthy Habits

Get healthy sleep. Many times our eyes are tired and overworked. A good night's sleep can do wonders for our eyes, as well as our general health. Sleeping with your head slightly elevated can lessen the pooling of fluids under the eyes, so add a few extra pillows under your head.
Food choices can make a huge difference with puffy eyes. Reduce salt intake and check to see if you may have food allergies. Limit exposure to UV rays and protect your eyes when in the sun. Limit the time you spend focusing on computer or TV screens.

Other Options

A little dab of vitamin E oil under the eyes can help. Rub it under your eyes before bed. Almond oil and a few drops of lime juice rubbed gently under the eye can reduce swollen, puffy eyes. Put a couple of spoons in the freezer for a few moments, and place them on your eyes to reduce puffy eyes.
