Excess facial hair on a woman can be embarrassing, and, when experienced by a man, can make him appear unkempt. While shaving is one option for men, it's not ideal for women and even men probably won't want to shave facial hair in tight or sensitive places, such as the eyebrow area. Fortunately, there are alternatives to shaving that are just as effective and, in most cases, will achieve longer-lasting results.
Waxing
Step 1
Wash your face to remove excess oil and dry it thoroughly with a towel. Warm the wax according to the package's instructions. Often this is achieved by heating the wax briefly in the microwave or letting it sit in a pot of hot water.
Step 2
Use the included spatula to spread the wax over the hair you wish to remove. Spread the wax in a thin, even layer in the direction that the hair grows.
Step 3
Press one of the included cloth or paper strips over the wax you've just applied, and press it firmly in the direction of the hair's growth to affix it. Firmly take hold of the strip and pull it off of your skin against the hair growth.
Depilatories
Step 1
Purchase a depilatory kit made specifically for facial hair removal. Do not use a product meant for any other part of the body. Those formulas are stronger and may cause a chemical burn on your face.
Step 2
Wash your face and dry it thoroughly. Use the included spatula to spread a thin, even layer of the depilatory over the hair you wish to remove. Use a swab to apply the cream over smaller areas. Keep the cream away from your eyes and soft tissues, like your lips.
Step 3
Leave the cream on your skin for the time indicated in the directions. Wet a small washcloth and carefully wipe the cream from your skin. The hair should come away from your face. Wash your face thoroughly with soap and water.
Tips and Warnings
- Depilatories are best for fine facial hair. Men may not find such a product useful on thicker beard growth. Use a pair of tweezers to pluck stray hairs that waxing or chemicals failed to remove.
- Hot wax can burn. Test the temperature of your wax on the inside of your wrist before applying it to your skin. Do an allergy skin test with the depilatory before using it.
