A variety of parasites can infect the human body, according to Utah State University Cooperative Extension website. Common parasites found in North American that may infest or feed on humans include body and head lice, bed bugs, fleas, ticks, tapeworms and a variety of roundworms and one-celled organisms. Although physicians recommend sufferers seek medical assistance for parasite removal, there are some home remedies that may help. However, your health-care provider must identify the type of parasite causing your infection before you begin any treatment. If you are already being treated for parasite infestation, do not stop the medication your doctor has prescribed.

Papaya

Eating papaya is one home remedy for ridding the body of parasites, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center's website. Papain, an enzyme found in papaya, may help destroy worms. The website recommends eating papaya 30 minutes before or after a meal. This home remedy works by creating an environment in the intestinal tract that parasitic worms find uninviting. The papain enzyme helps to return the intestinal area to a state in which the worms cannot survive. Sufferers should drink large amounts of water to help the process. Ingesting honey with the papaya may also assist in getting rid of the parasites.

Garlic

Eating garlic as a home remedy may successfully get rid of parasitic infections, reports the October 1997 issue of the American Association for the Advancement of Science's "Science" magazine. Garlic cuts off the supply of an enzyme that parasites need to infect cells and break down food particles, which makes the body an inhospitable location for the parasites to live. Additionally, when garlic is crushed or cut and ingested, compounds are released that may kill parasites.

Barberry

Barberry, an herb, finds use as an effective home remedy for parasite removal. The University of Maryland Medical Center website explains that the stem, root bark and fruit of barberry contain an alkaloid called berberine. This alkaloid may have antimicrobial properties, making it a home remedy option for getting rid of parasites.

Those who suffer from parasites should consult a physician before using herbal treatments for removal, as some herbs used for this purpose may be toxic or react with other medications.
