Ingredients for the Fast Track One Day Detox Diet

Thousands of toxins from sources such as medications, herbicides and food additives overwhelm the body's detoxification system and impair metabolism, according to "Alive" magazine. Toxins also increase your body's ability to store fat. If you're trying to lose weight, the Fast Track One-Day Detox Diet might boost your efforts. Ann Louise Gittleman, creator of the diet, cautions that doing a seven-day preparation for the one-day diet---for instance, eating more raw vegetables and avoiding refined carbohydrates---is essential and enhances your weight-loss results.

Cranberry, Orange and Lemon Juices

As key ingredients in the one-day detox diet's "Miracle Juice," cranberry, orange and lemon juices help your body to break down fat more effectively due to their high ascorbic acid, or Vitamin C, content. According to Gittleman, the "Miracle Juice" also reduces hunger pangs and triggers the production of glutathione, the primary antioxidant that supports the liver during the detox process.

Filtered Water

You need this ingredient to prepare the cranberry water recipe that combines with the orange and lemon juice to make up the "Miracle Juice." Gittleman recommends adding 8 oz unsweetened cranberry juice to 56 oz of filtered water. Throughout the one-day detox diet, you'll also alternate drinking 1 cup of filtered water and 1 cup "Miracle Juice." Water is essential to flush out toxins during the detox, and it also helps you stay hydrated and wards off detox side effects such as headaches.

Spices

Ground ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon don't just enhance the flavor of the "Miracle Juice," they play a key role in detoxifying your body. They also promote weight loss by boosting your metabolism and suppressing hunger. As Gittleman explains, cinnamon contains a flavonoid that has insulin-like properties and helps to keep your blood sugar stable during the detox, which reduces hunger and cravings. Ginger expands blood vessels, thereby increasing body heat and metabolism, and nutmeg aids digestion and wards off cravings.

Psyllium Husks or Flaxseeds

During the detox diet, you can choose to eat one of these foods, which are full of fiber that binds to toxins released when you fast, states Gittleman. They also help to cleanse the colon, break down impacted fecal matter and prevent constipation and bloating. Super-GI Cleanse capsules are alternatives ways to get fiber during the one-day detox diet, according to Gittleman. Take your chosen form of fiber at the end of the day or your detox diet.
