Digitek, also known as digoxin, is a prescription medication indicated for treating symptoms associated with congestive heart failure, and arrhythmia disorders such as atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. Drugs.com notes that this drug, derived from the digitalis plant, helps the heart to beat stronger and in a normal rhythmic pattern. This medication is not to be used in patients who have had a recent heart attack, or those who have ventricular fibrillation or an atrio-ventricular block.

Dizziness

According to DailyMed, 6 percent of participants on Digitek during clinical trials experienced dizziness or mild lightheadedness, and 4 percent reported headaches. These side effects are common at the initiation of Digitek drug therapy, and are considered mild and temporary. A related side effect that may present and compound the effects of dizziness is vision problems; that is, blurred vision or yellow vision. Such adverse reactions should subside on their own once the body adjusts to this medication. Patient should contact the prescribing physician, however, if these side effects persist or increase in severity.

Mental Disturbance

Five percent of participants during clinical trials experienced mental changes such as confusion, anxiety or depression, notes RxList. As digoxin alters chemical brain signals to improve cardiovascular function, other possible side effects may include temporary mood changes and/or mental disorientation. Patients should contact their physician immediately if mood changes are persistent and grow worse, especially if there is a medical history of mood disorders. While mental disorientation may simply turn out to be a side effect of the medication, it's a symptom that can also be associated with other medical conditions.

Nausea and Diarrhea

According to Drugs.com, 4 percent of clinical trial participants reported feeling nauseated, and an upset stomach frequently occurs when beginning taking a new medication. The nausea may occur with or without vomiting. A related side effect is a temporary loss of appetite. Diarrhea, another frequent adverse reaction, may occur with the symptom of watery and/or loose stools. Nausea with vomiting or diarrhea should be monitored closely in order to prevent the complication of dehydration due to loss of fluids.
