A relaxing game of golf doesn't have to be expensive. Myrtle Beach, in South Carolina, has "over 100 golf courses," according to the Myrtle Beach Golf Authority website. Golf is one of the things the region is known for, after all. You can find the cheapest golf in the Myrtle Beach area and all the while have fun and become fit.

Cheapest Deals

Instead of focusing on which golf course is the cheapest, you need to find the cheapest deals that apply to a range of courses. Although the prices will fluctuate by seasons and sometimes by the day, you will always be able to score a deal. For example, in September 2010, the best deals included golfing at: Arberdeen Country Club, West Course SouthCreek and Waterway Hills for only $49; Blackmoor, Litchfield Country Club, Wachesaw East and Tradition club for $55; or Long Bay Club, River Club and Wild Wing Plantation for $63.

Myrtle Beach's peak golfing season is in the spring; however, according to the Travel Golf website, "fall may actually be the better season to play in because green fees are lower, playing conditions are better and hotel prices will decrease."

Golf Packages

Buying a package at Myrtle Beach golf courses is the smartest way to spend your money. Within a reasonably priced package you will receive golf, accommodations and sometimes, free meals. You need to shop around, but here are examples of September 2010 packages posted by the Myrtle Beach Golf Authority. One called "A Local's Favorite" includes a three night stay and three golf courses; Eagle Nest, Crown Park and Beachwood. This is one of the cheapest packages, as low as $220 per person.

The "Fall Early Bird Special" is for true early birds; play before 8 a.m. and receive 25 percent to 50 percent off the regular price. The courses in this package include: Heather Glen, Shaftesbury Glen, Glen Dornoch, Possom Trot, Sandpiper Bay, Aberdeen, Waterway Hills, Kings North, Wild Wing Advocet, Myrtle Beach National West and Myrtle Beach National Southcreek.

The "Mid-Strand Package" includes three or more rounds with a free lunch at each course. The courses include: The Witch, The Wizard, Man-o-war, Prestwick, Arrowhead or Wild Wing. Package prices start at $280 per person.

Physical Health Benefits

According to the award-winning health and medical information website, Better Health Channel, golf health benefits include improvement in fitness, strength and body fat. The online community for women, Female Forum, suggests you "should walk rather than drive a golf cart. Walking through the average golf course can equal almost 3 miles."

The Better Health Channel also says that "carrying your clubs alone improves muscle tone and endurance." Of course the actual form of playing golf benefits you, too: the stride of a swing specifically tones your arm and back muscles. According to Female Forum, it also "loosens stiff joints."

Other Leisure Activities

Golf isn't the only cheap and effective way to stay fit. The Myrtle Beach Golf Authority website states that the "weather is mild enough to golf all year long," and if that's the case, the weather will be good for plenty other activities, too. According to the Discover Myrtle Beach website, "millions of people visit the area each year." Some cheap and year long activities include Family Kingdom Amusement and Water Park; cruises such as Captain Dick's Ocean Sightseeing Cruises; live shows at the Medieval Times, and Dixie Stampede; and tennis at the Litchfield Racquet Club.

Considerations

Remember to take care of yourself when pursuing any sort of physical activity. Although the chance of injuring yourself in golf is low, it can occur. The Better Health Channel recommends everyone take golf lessons, stretch before and after playing, use good equipment and drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Consider that golf deals do fluctuate. Go to the links in the Resource section and shop for yourself --- you might find Myrtle Beach golf courses at even lower prices!
