For couples attempting to get pregnant, it's important to know which vitamins, minerals and supplements are the most beneficial when preparing for pregnancy and that help to increase your chances of conceiving. Also, many vitamins will help you during your pregnancy, helping to promote an overall healthy pregnancy.
B Vitamins
According to MarchofDimes.com, folic avid helps the fetus's neural tube develop properly. The neural tube is the part of a developing baby that will eventually become the spinal cord and brain. When the neural tube does not close the way it should, a baby can suffer from a birth defect called neural tube defect (NTD). Fertilityfactor.com says that other B vitamins, such as vitamin B6 and B12, are essential for healthy reproduction. Vitamin B6 alone has shown to help increase fertility in women, and vitamin B6 helps to increase low sperm count in men.
Vitamin C
Low amounts of this vitamin can cause sperm to clump together, which is not ideal if you and your partner are trying to conceive. Men who smoke will really benefit from vitamin C as the antioxidant properties will help to neutralize the chemicals that are found in smoke. Male smokers should take at least 500 mg of vitamin C every day to increase the chances of conceiving and to promote a healthy sperm count. Also, vitamin C has been found to help women who are on the fertility medication clomiphene by increasing the chances of conceiving.
Vitamin E
This vitamin has been found to aid in conception. Men usually take vitamin E when the woman is undergoing an in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. Taking vitamin E can increase the chance of conception by 10 percent for women undergoing IVF.
