Proactiv skin care solutions help treat and eliminate acne almost anywhere on your body. The Proactiv company offers several acne solutions that contain chemicals that may cause side effects on your skin. You may experience allergic reactions from exposure to benzoyl peroxide and topical sulfur. Skin dryness is also a potential side effect of acne treatment with a Proactiv solution.

Dryness

Dry skin on your face is not a serious condition, according to the Mayo Clinic, however it may be unsightly and uncomfortable. If you fail to treat dry skin correctly, it may eventually lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Proactiv recommends that you use its own moisturizer, Proactiv Oil-Free Moisturizer with SPF 15 Sunscreen; however, you can use several other home remedies to treat dry skin.

Benzoyl Peroxide Allergy

Proactiv skin solutions contain the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide, which may be harmful for those with very sensitive skin. You may have a benzoyl peroxide allergy if Proactiv causes burning, blistering, redness, itching, a rash or swelling of your skin. According to the US National Library of Medicine, you should inform your doctor and pharmacist if you have a benzoyl peroxide allergy, which prescription and non-prescription medications you are taking, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before using any product that contains benzoyl peroxide.

Topical Sulfur Reaction

Proactiv may cause a topical sulfur reaction in your skin. Even if you have not had a reaction to topical sulfur in the past, Proactiv recommends that you test the product on a small area of your jawline for 2 to 3 days to make sure your skin will not react to the topical sulfur in the product. If your skin does have a reaction to topical sulfur you should not use abrasive soaps or cleaners, cosmetics, preparations containing alcohol or any other acne medication on the affected area.
