About Taking Anadrol-50

Anadrol-50, a brand name of the medication oxymetholone, is an androgen hormone used to treat certain types of anemia. It works by increasing a chemical in the body called erythropoietin that triggers the increase of red blood cells. Only a doctor can prescribe Anadrol-50, and patients should fully understand the risks and benefits before beginning treatment.

Before Use

People who have high blood calcium, diabetes, heart problems, kidney problems or liver problems should avoid taking Anadrol-50. Men with enlarged prostates or women who are breastfeeding should discuss the drug thoroughly with their doctor. Those with severe kidney problems, an allergy to an ingredient found in Anadrol-50 and women who are or may become pregnant should not take Anadrol-50, warns Drugs.com. Patients should also report any allergies, over-the-counter or prescription medications, or herbal supplements to a doctor or pharmacist to prevent negative drug interactions.

Use

Patients should always follow their doctor's instructions and dosing information when taking Anadrol-50. Although this medication can be taken without food, taking it with food may reduce stomach irritation. Patients who forget to take a dose of Anadrol-50 should simply take it when they remember, unless it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. If that is the case, they should skip the missed dosed and continue following their normal dosing schedule. Patients should not take two doses of Anadrol-50 at one time.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Anadrol-50 include acne, changes in sexual desire, abnormal skin sensations, hair loss or baldness, headaches, anxiety or general body discomfort. Individuals experiencing these side effects only need to consult a doctor if the side effects become bothersome or are persistent. Although rare, serious side effects may also occur. Serious side effects may include vomiting, weight gain, jaundice, unusual bleeding or bruising, mental problems, changes in menstrual periods, hair growth on the face, changes in skin color, hoarseness, persistent or frequent erections, new lumps or pain, difficulty urinating, or swelling. Patients displaying any of these severe side effects should seek medical attention right away.

Considerations

Although people with a known allergy to the ingredients in Anadrol-50 are typically advised not to use it, some people may take it without realizing they are allergic. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to Anadrol-50 include a sudden rash or hives, a feeling of tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing and swelling of the face, lips, mouth or tongue. Those who experience any of these symptoms after taking Anadrol-50 should seek immediate medical attention.

Storage

Anadrol-50 should be properly stored when not in use. Although brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit is permitted, Anadrol-50 should ideally be stored in places where the temperature is between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit. It should be stored away from moisture, heat and light. Individuals should take care to store Androl-50 in a locked cabinet or places out of reach of children or pets.

Warning

The only people who should take Anadrol-50 are those who have obtained a prescription from a doctor. Sharing Anadrol-50 with others or not following prescription instructions can be dangerous, warns the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Individuals taking Anadrol-50 should talk to a doctor if their symptoms do not improve or become worse, but should not increase their dosage without the approval of their doctor.
