Receding hairlines are much more common among men than women, but they can occur among both sexes. A receding hairline can make you self-conscious about your looks and can lead to lower self-esteem. There are treatments for hair loss, including hair growth creams, laser treatments and hair transplants. But if you don't want to use those treatments or they don't work, you might be left looking for a way to cover up your receding hairline.

Step 1

Grow your hair out. If you can't have hair everywhere, you can at least grow more of it where you can. Growing your hair out will make it appear like you have a lot of hair on your head, which can minimize the appearance of your receding hairline.

Step 2

Use shampoo and conditioner designed to thicken your hair. Thin hair can expose receding hairlines much more easily. Thickening shampoos and conditioners can add body to your hair, helping it appear thicker.

Step 3

Comb your hair over the balding spot. This can look bad quickly if you have a large balding area or if the comb-over is obvious. But if your hair is just starting to recede, making sure the hair lays over the bare scalp.

Step 4

Wear a hat. People can't see your receding hairline if you cover it with a hat.
