Tekturna is a medication in a class of drugs known as anti-hypertensives. According to Drugs.com, Tekturna works by decreasing substances in the body that narrow blood vessels and raise blood pressure. This medication may be used in conjunction with other medications and diet and exercise to maintain a healthy blood pressure. Tekturna is available in tablet form and should be taken at the same time each day. There are some side effects associated with Tekturna that may be unknown to some users.
Low Blood Pressure
Patients taking Tekturna may not be aware that their medication can cause low blood pressure. Symptoms of low blood pressure can include headache, dizziness, fainting, fatigue and nausea. According to Drugs.com, drinking alcohol, vomiting, diarrhea, heavy sweating, heart disease, dialysis, a low-salt diet, or taking diuretics can also lead to the development of low blood pressure while taking Tekturna. Patients who take anti-hypertensive medications should be instructed by their doctor to consistently monitor their blood pressure at home. Low blood pressure that is not addressed may cause serious side effects. Those who develop low blood pressure should contact their physician prior to taking another dose of Tekturna.
Skin Rash
Some patients taking Tekturna may develop a skin rash. This rash may or may not cause itching. A doctor may recommend the use of a topical cream that contains cortisone for occasional relief. If a rash is accompanied by hives, difficulty breathing, hoarseness, or a swelling of the tongue or throat it may be a sign of a serious reaction to Tekturna, which requires immediate medical attention.
Cough
A possible unknown side effect of Tekturna is cough. Patients may develop cough at anytime during treatment with this medication. The use of humidified air and throat lozenges may be helpful to relieve cough. If a cough is accompanied by swollen lymph glands, fever, chills, difficulty breathing, or yellow or green tinged sputum it may be a sign of a bacterial infection which requires medical treatment. A cough that becomes bothersome or persistent should be reported to a physician. A change in medication or dosage may be recommended.
