Losing weight is a matter of exercising more and eating less. Those strategies will go a long way towards helping you reach your goal, but adding a few slimming foods to your diet will also fortify your efforts. Try some of dieting's super foods for weight loss.

Complex Carbs

Foods with complex carbohydrates take longer to digest, thus fueling your body for longer periods and creating a feeling of fullness far longer than foods with simple carbs, which are often packed with sugar and little nutritional value. And they keep blood sugar levels low. Some complex carb options are oats, whole grain pasta, peas, beans, corn and bran products.

High-protein Foods

Several medical studies, including a 2003 "Journal of Nutrition" study, concluded that high-protein foods aid weight loss because the amino acids contained in such foods helps the body retain lean muscle during weight loss rather than fat. Steak, eggs and lean hamburger--hold the cheese, bacon and mayo--are acceptable in moderation. Even better choices are chicken breast and fish, because they pack a protein punch minus the fat content of the other meats.

Apples

An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but beyond the apple's often-lauded nutritional value, it also aids weights loss. In a 2007 study by Penn State University, those who ate an apple shortly before lunch took in nearly 190 less calories than others who skipped the apple. An apple before lunch reduces hunger, causing you to eat less, and apples contain antioxidants that can cut down on metabolic syndrome.

Grapefruit

In 2007, research by the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center at Scripps Clinic reinforced the theory that grapefruit is a diet super food. The study concluded that chemicals contained in grapefruit drop insulin levels and help the body shed weight.
