Even though laser treatments, microdermabrasion and chemical peels frequently make the list of cures for acne scarring, some home remedies may be able to achieve comparable results. Many of these home remedies have been proven over time to be effective treatments for the damage caused by breakouts.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice may help to lessen if not repair acne scars on your skin. Roshni Dayal, in "Natural Beauty Secrets from India: Easy, Economical, and Effective Head-to-Toe Home Remedies for a Beautiful You, Naturally," recommends fresh lemon juice for treating acne and acne scars, as well as a number of other skin concerns, including blemishes, freckles, dark circles, and fine lines and wrinkles. Apply fresh lemon juice to the surface of your skin with a soft cotton applicator as part of your daily beauty regimen.
Green Tea
Drink green tea daily to help reduce if not rectify the scarring from acne and other skin conditions, such as eczema. Terry Tan, in "Naturally Speaking: Chinese Recipes and Home Remedies," explains that "the polyphenol in green tea possesses the ability to reactivate cells in the outer dermis." He explains that, when you drink green tea, over time the unique healing qualities of polyphenol can help to minimize scars and other blemishes. Consuming a cup of green tea daily can have other health benefits as well, such as lowering cholesterol.
Papaya Scrub
The enzymes in papayas can also help to minimize and to mend acne scars and wrinkles on your skin. The health guide "1,801 Home Remedies: Trustworthy Treatments for Everyday Health Problems," recommends mixing 2 tbsp. of fresh papaya with 1 tbsp. of dry oatmeal. Apply this mixture to your skin and let it remain for eight to 10 minutes. Use a washcloth to scrub the mixture gently over the surface of your skin. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Repeat this scrub once a week until you see the desired results.
Comfrey Root
Use a comfrey root mask to heal scarring from acne, as well as other scars, and to lessen wrinkles. Amy Rost, in "Natural Healing Wisdom and Know How: Useful Practices, Recipes, and Formulas for a Lifetime of Health," recommends bringing a handful of fresh comfrey root and some water to boil in a saucepan, and then simmering the mixture until a cream begins to form. Complete the preparation by mashing the plant and then straining out any left over bits of root. Apply the resulting cream as an overnight mask, and then wash it off the following morning. She suggests using this mask twice a week until the scars disappear.
