MAC Cosmetics, short for Makeup Art Cosmetics, was founded in 1984 in Toronto, Canada. The creators of the MAC company were Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo. They both had careers in the beauty and fashion industry; they then created a makeup designed to perform well on fashion shoots that would have the durability to withstand bright lights. The MAC company was purchased by Estee Lauder in 1998.

The Viva Glam program at MAC Cosmetics works to raise funds for patients with HIV/AIDS. The products sold in the Viva Glam program are lipstick, lip gloss and lip glass. Each year, the products are updated and the products from the previous year are still available too. Viva Glam donated 100 percent of the profits to AIDS charities. By 2008, more than $125 million had been donated.
