Mineral make-up can be a healthy choice for your skin, and an easy way to wear the sunscreen you need every day. Originally only a foundation product, mineral makeup is now available in a variety of different formats and products for everything from eyes to lips. Both PurMinerals and bareMinerals brands are available online and in retail stores, in a variety of products.

Identification

Both PurMinerals and bareMinerals are classed as mineral makeup. The most notable difference between the two brands is that PurMinerals powders are sold as pressed powders in compacts while bareMinerals powders are sold as loose powders in jars with sifter tops.

Function

Mineral makeup is designed to provide a natural look using natural mineral ingredients that are kind to the skin, especially sensitive skin. Both PurMinerals and bareMinerals produce a foundation which provides sun protection with an SPF 15, and skin care products as well as makeup.

Types

PurMinerals and bareMinerals both produce foundation, concealer, powder, blusher, all-over face color, eyeshadow and lip colors. Both offer skin preparation and skin care products as well as makeup, brushes and combination kits.

Benefits

Using a foundation with SPF 15 daily helps prevent skin damage from repeated daily sun exposure. Both companies use natural ingredients and do not use animal testing. Mineral makeup is noted for its natural looking appearance, and the intensity of color in its highly pigmented blushes and eyeshadows.

Considerations

PurMinerals and bareMinerals products are similar in terms of price and range of products and colors offered. PurMinerals contains slightly more ingredients in its products, which could be a consideration if you have sensitive skin. Because it uses pressed powders, however, PurMinerals products may be more convenient if you travel or need touch-ups during the day. Otherwise, choose based on your application preference or desired colors.
