Overview

Running on a treadmill is a great option for anyone who is self-conscious about running outside, afraid of running outside or simply prefers to work out indoors. Treadmills have the distinct advantage of being able to point directly toward a television screen, creating much appeal to those who get bored when running or working out. Almost anyone can run on a treadmill, but it is important to know how before you try. This will help you avoid injury.

Step 1

Clip the treadmill key to your clothing using the safety clip. If you fall, the treadmill will automatically shut off when the key is removed. If you fall and the treadmill continues to run, you can get severely injured from the belt.

Step 2

Stand on the foot rails alongside the timing belt.

Step 3

Turn on the treadmill at its lowest speed.

Step 4

Step onto the treadmill belt. You should be walking. Slowly increase the speed of the belt so that you can easily increase your jogging pace to match.

Step 5

Gradually slow down the treadmill speed when you are ready to stop jogging. Work yourself down to a walking pace for a cool-down. When you are done, step on the foot rails again and remove the key to power down the machine.
