Against Colitis and Intestinal Parasites
Natural News states that oil of oregano can be used to treat colitis, an inflammation of the colon which can produce symptoms such as diarrhea, dehydration, bloody stools and abdominal swelling or pain. A study published in volume 2007 of "Mediators of Inflammation" conducted by A. Bukovska, S. Cikos, S. Juhas, G. Ilkova, P. Rehak and J. Koppel, showed that the oils of oregano and thyme were effective in reducing inflammation on mice that were infected with colitis. They also state that these oils decreased mortality rate and assisted with the body's recovery of weight gain. There is also research published in the May 2000, issue of "Phytotherapy Research" conducted by M. Force, W.S. Sparks and R.A. Ronzio that shows taking oregano oil can remove enteric, intestinal, parasites and improve gastrointestinal symptoms resulting from parasitic infestation.
Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties

Research published in the June 15, 2010 issue of "International Journal of Food Microbiology." conducted by K. Palaniappan and R.A. Holley, shows that carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde--both of which are active ingredients in the Zand oregano oil--and thymol were effective against the staphylococcus aureus bacteria and increased the effectiveness of commonly used antibiotics, such as ampicillin and penicillin, against bacterial strains that have become drug resistant.
