Considered a heavy moisturizer, pure lanolin soothes dry, chapped and broken skin when applied liberally. Sheep secrete lanolin from their oil glands, which saturates their wool. A scouring bath separates the lanolin from the wool afterward. An application of pure lanolin is especially helpful for women who are breastfeeding, according to the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. A generous layer applied to the skin in between feedings can help heal cracked nipples.

Step 1

Wash your hands before applying the pure lanolin, using soap and warm water. Dry your hands with a clean towel afterward.

Step 2

Apply a pea-sized amount of pure lanolin to your skin using your fingertips. Massage the pure lanolin into your skin using a circular motion.

Step 3

Continue rubbing the pure lanolin into your skin until fully absorbed. Apply the pure lanolin three to four times daily.
