Dizziness
The most common side effect associated with Benicar HCT is dizziness or lightheadedness. Episodes of dizziness may contribute to balance problems when patients attempt to stand or walk about normally. During episodes of lightheadedness, patients should remain seated until the sensation passes in order to limit injury from tripping or falling down. Upper Respiratory Tract Infection
An estimated 7 percent of patients developed an upper respiratory tract infection while taking Benicar HCT during clinical trials, RxList reports. Upper respiratory tract side effects may include dry cough, difficulty breathing, chest discomfort or fever. Patients with a fever may also develop chills, head pain, flushing or sweating. Additional antibiotic medication may be necessary to resolve upper respiratory tract infection symptoms and affected patients should consult a physician for additional guidance.
Nausea or Upset Stomach
Upset stomach side effects, such as nausea, may arise in patients taking Benicar HCT. In clinical trials, approximately 3 percent of patients reported feeling nauseous after taking a dose of this medication, the FDA reports. Nausea may contribute to a diminished appetite, stomach pain or heartburn in certain patients.
