The tires of your bicycle can slowly deflate because of excessive use or a rough riding terrain. The tire itself does not actually hold the air. An inner lining in the tire, referred to as the tire tube, can be inflated using your Schwinn bike tire pump. The Schwinn pump is universal and can inflate most kinds of bike tires. Your tires can also deflate due to a puncture in the tire tube. Check to make sure your tire tubes are in a proper working condition before attempting to inflate them with your Schwinn pump.

Step 1

Locate the number on the side of your tire that indicates the maximum pounds per square inch of air that your tires can hold. Remove the small cap from the tire tube valve that has been deflated. Place the hand-held tire pressure gauge onto the valve of the tire tube to determine the amount of air that your tires currently hold.

Step 2

Place the base of your Schwinn bike tire pump onto the ground beside your deflated tire or tires. Lift the lever located on the end of the hose that protrudes from your Schwinn bike tire pump. Place the tip of the hose onto the valve of your deflated tire. Lower the lever on the hose to fasten the hose to the valve.

Step 3

Raise the horizontal handle located at the top of your Schwinn pump. Push down on the handle to pump air out of the tip of the hose and into the tube of your deflated tire. Continue to lift up and push down on the handle of your Schwinn pump until your tire appears adequately inflated.

Step 4

Lift the lever of the hose to loosen the tip from the valve. Place the hand held tire pressure gauge over the valve to determine if your tire holds too much air according to the PSI number. Press the head of the tire pressure gauge halfway into the valve if you need to release some air from your tire tubes.

Step 5

Repeat the simple pumping process with your Schwinn bike pump if you need to inflate your remaining bike tire. Place the tire pressure gauge over the valve to determine the amount of air in your tire tubes. Tighten the cap back onto the valves of your tire tubes.
