Myrtle Beach is a popular vacation destination located along the Grand Strand, a 60 mile stretch of sandy beaches on South Carolina's northeastern coast. While its peak tourist season is May to September, activities --- both indoor and outdoor --- are available throughout the year.
Golf and Putt Putt
According to the Myrtle Beach Area Conventions & Visitors Bureau, more than 10 golf courses and numerous miniature golf courses in the area that remain open year-round. Though the area's winter temperatures can hover in the mid 50s during the day, snow on your course is highly unlikely. The TravelGolf Network suggests booking your winter golf times in early October, as the slots can fill up fast.
Live Theater
The Carolina Opry, a two hour show featuring music, comedy, and dance performed in a 2,200-seat theater, has entertained Myrtle Beach tourists for over 20 years. In November and December, the theater holds The Carolina Opry Christmas Special, a joyous dance and musical celebration of the holidays.
Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede is a dinner and show spectacular that combines talented performers, horse feats, stunt riders, music, magic, and a four-course meal. A Christmas show during November and December will introduce a live nativity scene, elves, and even jolly St. Nick into the performance.
Shopping
Barefoot Landing, located in North Myrtle Beach, is a popular shopping and entertainment complex. The facility, which borders a 27-acre lake, has more than 100 specialty and retail shops.
The Broadway at the Beach complex has over 100 shops, 19 restaurants, two movie theaters, and several entertainment options. Host to more than 14 million visitors a year, the complex offers something of interest for every visitor.
The Tanger Outlet Centers has two locations in Myrtle Beach, one at the intersection of Highway 22 and US 17, and the other on Highway 501. Both offer brand name and designer clothes and accessories at discounted prices.
Ripley's Aquarium
When winter halts the outdoor water activities, Myrtle Beach tourists can still experience the sea at Ripley's Aquarium. Located at the Broadway at the Beach complex, the 85,000 square foot aquarium is home to piranhas, sharks, and sea turtles.
NASCAR SpeedPark
Myrtle Beach's NASCAR SpeedPark offers everything from 18-hole NASCAR-themed mini-golf courses to an interactive arcade to full motion race car simulators. While the park welcomes children and adults of all ages, most rides require you to be 36 inches tall.
