Nutritionist and author, Anne Louise Gittleman, Ph.D. created The Fast Track Detox Diet strategy to help eliminate extra buildup and toxic material from the body, without adding physical symptoms to the individual undertaking the detoxification steps. Gittleman notes that as dieters lose weight, toxins begin to release from the fatty tissues, enter the bloodstream, and create symptoms of fatigue, emotional distress and a slowing of weight loss. The Fast Track Detox Diet is the author's attempt to address these issues, help dieters break through any weight loss plateaus, and to reach permanent weight loss and increased vitality.
Step 1
Prepare your body for one full week, seven full days, by eating only cruciferous vegetables, such as cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and broccoli sprouts. Eat dark green leafy vegetables and herbs, like parsley, kale, watercress, chard, cilantro, beet greens, escarole, dandelion greens and mustard greens. Enjoy citrus, like oranges, lemons and limes. Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice, which contain a compound called naringin that can interfere with the liver-cleansing process. Sulfur-rich foods, like garlic, onions, eggs and daikon radish can be eaten in this first week, as well as liver healers, such as artichoke, asparagus, beets, celery, dandelion-root tea, whey and nutritional yeast flakes.
Step 2
Consume at least two servings of a colon caring food, such as powdered psyllium husks, carrots, berries, apples, pears or ground flaxseeds. Eat two servings of these foods, each day of the first week during The Fast Track Detox Diet, as well as the final three days of the diet.
Step 3
Drink half of your body weight in ounces of filtered or purified water each day. If you weight 135 lbs., drink 67.5 oz. of filtered water daily.
Step 4
Eat two servings of lean protein daily, for the first seven days and final three days of the diet. Choose heart-healthy sources such as lean, grass fed beef, lamb, salmon, tuna, skinless, free-range chicken or turkey. For vegans or vegetarians, consume a minimum of two tablespoons daily of a high-quality blue-green algae or some other spirulina source.
Step 5
Incorporate one to two tablespoons of healthy fats daily, for the first seven days of the diet. Use oils such as olive oil, flaxseed oil, or a mixture of flaxseed and black-currant oil.
Step 6
Bring cranberry water to a light boil, then reduce the heat to low. Place cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg into a tea ball; add to the cranberry water. Simmer 15 to 20 minutes, then cool to room temperature. Stir in orange and lemon juices. Add Stevia at this time, if desired. This miracle juice should be alternated with one cup of filtered water throughout the day, totaling 72 oz. of fluid over your fasting day. Drink at least one cup of liquid every hour while you are fasting on day number eight.
Step 7
Choose at least one probiotic food source to restore "friendly bacteria," after your fasting day on day eight. The following three days should include either a half a cup of sauerkraut, yogurt with live cultures, low-fat or whole milk. Complete the diet by eating the foods you began with from the first week.
Tips and Warnings
- Eliminate saturated and trans-fats, sugar, refined carbohydrates, gluten-containing grains, such as wheat, rye, and barley; and soy-protein isolates, artificial sweeteners, alcohol and caffeine for the entire duration of the program.
