Water skiing involves a boat that tows a skier who holds on to a rope connected to the back of the boat. Accidents and injuries can occur if you do not properly secure the ski rope to the boat. While a number of knots may be appropriate for water skiing, the anchor knot--which is the same knot used to secure anchors to a boat--will provide the strength and security necessary for towing a skier.
Step 1
Wrap the rope twice around the pole or through the eye of the towing hitch at the back of the boat loosely so you create two loops.
Step 2
Lay the short end of the rope on top of the long end. Wrap the short end underneath the long end of the rope, then feed it through the two loops you just made.
Step 3
Wrap the short end of the rope around the long end to create another loop.
Step 4
Pass the short end of the rope through the new loop and pull tight.
Step 5
Test the knot by pulling vigorously on the rope. The knot should withstand both constant pressure and sudden jerking without loosening.
