Everybody's initial and actual hair is white. The color that you see before your hair turns white is actually the pigment melanin. There is only light and dark melanin. These two pigments are mixed together to make up hair that varies from person to person. As the body ages, less melanin is produced. The age hair starts graying is based on genetics. There are ways stop the growth of gray hair and get back some of your original hair color.

Step 1

Mix a small amount of Castor oil together with the juice from half a lemon. Add henna to the mixture and apply it to your scalp. Let it sit for one hour and then wash it out with an herbal shampoo. The lemon juice mixture will help stimulate the melanin to produce your original hair color.

Step 2

Include more foods that are high in copper in your diet. Eat foods such as crab, oysters, sunflower seeds and nuts, which contain high concentrations of copper. Low levels of copper have been linked to a drop in the production of hair pigment.

Step 3

Melt a stick of butter made from a cow's milk and massage it into the roots of your hair at least twice a week. Wash the excess butter out with warm water after you have massaged it into your hair. The butter has properties that help increase the strength of your hair and reduce the color of your gray hair.

Step 4

Take some Indian gooseberries and grind them into a powder. Mix it with water until it becomes a paste-like substance. Massage it into your scalp and wash it off with cool water after 15 to 20 minutes. The paste will help remove dead skin cells and help produce more of your natural hair color.

Step 5

Avoid eating any foods with artificial flavors and artificial preservatives. Do eat foods that have been made with white flour such as white breads and pastas. Artificial preservatives can put a strain on the digestive system and can destroy the antioxidants in your body. This will make your hair brittle and can cause your hair to prematurely gray.
